My Day Of Traveling To "Blogher 2011" in San Diego, CA…

This morning started out rather early! I will admit that because of the excitement of the impending trip and the fact that our dog was chewing on something noisily as I was trying to fall asleep, SLEEP took awhile to come last night for me. Once I did finally fall asleep, I was awoke twice by the kids and finally by the alarm clock at 3:05am.

I got up, dressed, made a pot of coffee (but only had one cup), got the rest of the family up and they drove me an hour to the Hartford airport, so I could take off on my adventure. I was delighted that the lines to check in to the plane were short, the security check in was easy and I was sitting calmly at my terminal with plenty of time to kill.

(can you tell I was super excited to get traveling?)

I started my book “Where you left me” by Jennifer Gardner Trulson…but had to stop when I was close to FULL ON BAWLING (I think the people next to me heard me sniffing and swallowing hard as I tried to avoid the impending outburst) because of the beginning of the story. Wow! She is great at describing how she felt…the minute she heard that the towers were hit…the minute she could feel the disconnect between her & her husband, because he was GONE! WOW!

My first plane ride was only a short 45 minute jaunt to New Jersey (in which I managed to doze off for a few minutes)…where I ate breakfast at a table with two British women who were oooing and ahhhing about the fantastic oatmeal the one was eating. I giggled inside, proceeded to finish my food and took my coffee to wander.

Do you enjoy walking in the airport? I do! There’s just something fun about the people watching, about the sense of excitement that you can pick up on from some people, the pure and udder exhaustion from others. For me, today was all about EXCITEMENT and I think, from the looks I got from people, people could tell it without me even saying a single word!
SAN DIEGO…and the Blogher convention were at my fingertips!

My second plane ride was fantastic. I sat next to an aunt/niece pair, that didn’t know they would end up on the same plane and were super thrilled to be next to each other (after we played a lot of MUSICAL chairs).  We actually ended up sitting in upgraded seats (EXIT AISLE) when all was said and done...awesome leg room to stretch out.  I tried sleep, but couldn’t…watched a SCREAM movie (cheesy, right?), chatted with my seat friends and anxiously awaited touch down in L.A.  Oh yeah, for some reason I had to go to the bathroom like 4 times...on a six hour flight.  TO MUCH to drink perhaps??

(Yes, the airport in LA had Baja Fresh and I had to get me some yummy goodness! It’s been way to long!)

My third plane ride was pretty uneventful and short. The gentleman I sat next to didn’t utter a word to me the entire flight (which, if you know mean...just absolutely kills me when the person sitting next to me won't chat with me), he kept passing gas (HORRIBLE) and had the worst smelling breath EVER. It took everything in me not to gag…but thankfully it was a hop, skip and jump…and we were landed in San Diego.
Super glad to get off that plane for many reasons!

I took a taxi (since I couldn’t figure out the shuttle situation) to the Omni Hotel and my check in was literally 30 seconds. They had my room cards ready to go, my internet information, etc. I am on the 20th floor…HOLY MOLY and what a view I have. Not only have Padre Stadium, but also of the Harbor…right in my own hotel room! AMAZING!

I have already unpacked, fixed myself back up from a long day of traveling and I am getting ready to head out to my first BLOGHER 2011 party…The Big Toy Book’s Sweet Suite Event in the HardRock Hotel. I think I look pretty presentable (well, cute at least) and ready to roll!

I’m going to be ready to collapse when I get back to my room tonight, since it’s already 8:00pm in Connecticut and I’ve been up since 12:00 am San Diego time this morning. But hey, I can sleep an entire night without interruptions and get myself all dolled up, drink my coffee and head out for my first full day at BLOGHER 2011!!  Excitement will keep me going...got to do it for my sponsors!
