Our nine year old loves video games. It seems to be the one thing I know, that if I take it from him (as punishment), I can prove my point and he is truly effected by being "PUNISHED".
So, he got in trouble this week at the doctor's office and to make matter's worse, he mouthed me after I told him he was in trouble. He lost his ELECTRONIC GAME privileges for 2 weeks. To him...that's an absolute lifetime. Especially since he doesn't have formal homework anymore (the teacher is giving them a chance to work on their math facts instead) and has extra "FREE TIME" on his hands.
Anyway, he comes walking up to me yesterday afternoon, taps me on the shoulder and holds out his hand. He tells me, "Mom...I'll give you $4.00 if you let me play the Wii!" I looked at him, registered what he was offering me and laughed..."Umm...are you trying to bribe me out of your punishment"? He laughs and says, "yeah Mom, did it work?" I laughed and said, "keep your money honey...you have two weeks and I am sticking to your punishment!" He went as far as $20 before realizing that mommy wasn't budging on the punishment.
I THINK I PROVED MY POINT!
A punishment is a punishment...no matter how much money you try to offer to get out of it!
