Every woman that I know...dislikes going in for their "ANNUAL" pap smear. However, with as common as cancer is now days, it's definitely something you need to keep tabs on, right?
I can speak very passionately about this. In my early twenties...my pap smear came back abnormal. I had moderate to severe dysplasia (pre-cancer cells). I had to have a procedure called "LEEPS", where they cauterize the cancer cells with the hopes that they will not ever return. Needless to say, when I first got the results, I was freaking out. I called the "cancer doctor" that I worked for and asked him to look at my report...and he reassured me that the procedure they were recommending should take care of things.
I knew cancer ran in my family, but I never thought I'd get it (or the early signs of it)...
Since then, I have tried...the best I can...to have make & keep my yearly appointment. However, somehow in the midst of our chaotic lives...I missed last year's appointment, so it's been two years. I am going this morning and a little worried that my results may come back abnormal again? I know I am probably just being "funny" about it, but I've also had babies almost every two years for the past 9 years...and after each delivery...any abnormal cells disappear for a little while.
So we'll see how this goes. Thankfully, our family doctor is fantastic and I don't mind going in to see her. The exam itself is never fun, but if it helps to keep me "CANCER FREE" then it's worth a few minutes of discomfort, rather than finding I have full blown CERVICAL cancer in the very immediate future.
