Today was Jade's very first visit to the vet. I was apprehensive about taking her...not because I was afraid of how she would behave (cause she's a pretty good girl), but because the last time she rode in the car, she puked! Another worry, I was taking along a 2 and 5 year old, who were already in fabulously SOUR moods before we left the house.
We got to the clinic with no problems and for the most part (despite a little waiting), we all managed to keep everything under control. We got escorted to our room, where of course...the scale was broke. So they had to take her out of the room (and away from me) to weigh her. She's 53 pounds and her blood pressure was through the roof because of her nerves. They said she's extremely healthy and absolutely adorable! I agree! They drew her blood and she made quite a bloody mess (because of her blood pressure) of the room. She's now sporting a cute pink bandage on her leg..so hopefully the spot they drew from won't be all swelled up.
Meanwhile, the kids would not sit still and I somehow, in the chaos, manged to knee my five year old in the nose. QUITE embarrassing and she was so upset, it took her a few seconds to catch her breath to then proceed with the dramatic crying. They were gracious and got her an ice pack and she's totally fine! LESSON LEARNED...when MOMMY says, "sit still", she means it! Though it was a complete and total accident...obviously!
They didn't hassle me to much about the home vaccinations (I was worried they might) and she received her rabies vaccine (have a new dog tag to prove it), Lyme's disease vaccine, more de-wormer and we will start the heart worm medication tomorrow (which she will get once a month). She gets to go back in on the 23rd to be SPADE, get her second Lyme's disease vaccine and more de-wormer. Oh yeah, she also got a cute BANDANNA for her to wear home!
On our way back to the house, she didn't ride so well! I think the emotional MOUNTAIN she had climbed at the vet came to a crashing end and she puked all over the inside of the van. FANTASTIC way to end her first vet visit.
So there you go. No trip anywhere with my kids or dog is UNEVENTFUL! You just got to love LIFE!
