How Do You Feel About Your Kids...And COLLEGE. Will Your Pressure Them To Go?

College is a big deal in this day and age.  Right?  I mean, I think most people's perspective is that, "if you don't go to college, you can't amount to as much in society!"  Right again?

So, we have four kids, which are all different (personality wise) and will someday probably all have different paths they will take in life (career wise).  I am not college educated (believe it or not...you can laugh if you want), but did very well, before becoming a stay at home mommy in a career in staffing.  May not sound like much, but it paid the bills and I enjoyed finding people jobs.  My husband is college degree'd (since we've been married) with his Bachelors Degree and is now going through the UConn Master's Program.  So since we have one HS diploma parent and one college degree'd parent...we sometimes don't see eye to eye on goals for our kids futures.  Do you have a similar situation in your house?

My question for you...will you apply pressure (FIRM OR GENTLE) to your children to get the grades necessary, take the test required and seek their future career ONLY after acquiring a college degree first?

Is this important or not?  Will you discourage them for doing things like, going in the Military, heading straight into an occupation (perhaps a family business) or even getting married straight out of high school..

Do you think your children can be successful in their careers and life without a college degree?  Do you think they will not be "worth" as much to a company without that certification on their resume?  Will it hinder them from climbing the ladder of success as quickly or even at all, because they don't go to college after high school?

Anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts...

I know...in this house at least, we will be proud of our children, regardless of the direction they go after high school.  Though we may have future ambitions and goals in mind for them...their life (at that point) is theirs to live.  A scary though, right?

That means that all this parenting we've been doing up to that point will prove itself "WORTH IT!"
