That's right...we did!
(or we can believe we did at least...)
My sister in law and her kids arrived on Saturday afternoon and because of the scorching heat and humidity, we decided to head to our town pool to cool off and enjoy the last few hours of the day together. As we were driving through the park to get to the pool, my husband (in the car ahead of us), pointed out a very large turtle in the grass area. It appeared to be struggling to get across the street to water and was IN NEED OF HELP.
Of course, I thought to myself, "we need to rescue that turtle!" At the same time I was thinking it, my sister in law said it outloud...so we made a quick turn around, parked and her & I hopped out (after telling all three of the girls to stay put) to help this HOT and HELPLESS turtle across the street. As we approached it, it kicked it's legs into high gear and started jetting it across the road. As I was chasing after it (towards the creek), my sister in law noticed that the girls had gotten out of the car and my youngest daughter was, herself, jetting across the street...just as a car was coming quickly down the road. Thankfully, my sis in law was able to stop my daughter from crossing...or she probably would have gotten hit.
How ironic would that have been...saved a turtle and lost a child?
Anyway, we got back in the car, the girls got a little talking to and we were able to sleep the first night of our STAYCATION...knowing we had done a good deed in helping that poor turtle back to where it needed to be and enjoying the nice cold pool & our family's visit.
