Our nine year old has seasonal allergies. As the pollen starts floating in the air and the flowers start to bloom, he becomes this scratchy throat, runny nose, watery eyes little boy. I hate seeing him suffer every year as allergy season arrives...
Obviously, this year will be no exception!
Today, it started...and before school, he was complaining of his throat bothering him. Since he wasn't running a fever, nor showing signs of sickness...I sent him off to school. Of course, mid-day today, I received a phone call from the school nurse notifying me that she had seen him at least 5 times, complaining of a sore scratchy throat and that I needed to come pick him up. She said he wasn't running a fever, but was persistent that his throat was killing him. He later tells me that when he was in music class, "his voice was REALLY bad!" So bad that his teachers had noticed and commented on it. He told them he felt like he had a frog in his throat! So funny!
So, I loaded up the minivan with the other two mini-people and we ventured to the school to pick up my 3rd grade sicko. Funny thing, when I got there, the nurse said, "he seems to be feeling a little better now!" Of course, but I had already checked him out and brought him home. I, of course, explained to him that because he came home from school sick, he wasn't being paid any special privileges (like DS, Wii or computer time). He would stay on the couch and he seems okay with that...so far. I busted out the Children's Claritin and will proceed to dose him, during this SPRING, as necessary. I hope this allergy season is mild in comparison. I don't want to be at the school everyday, picking him up, because of a sore scratchy throat.
Does anyone in your house suffer from seasonal allergies? How do you handle them? Have they arrived at your house yet this year?
